TERMS & CONDITIONS
My full terms & conditions are outlined below for Wedding Cake orders.
Throughout the terms, the wording “we” “us” & “our” may be used & refers to Feathers Cakery.
By paying your booking fee it will be deemed that these terms & conditions have been read, understood, & accepted before ordering.
If there is anything you do not understand, please feel free to contact me at featherscakery@hotmail.com
Prices
All wedding cakes are priced accordingly to the size of your cake & the design required.
Prices are non- negotiable.
Upon completion of a consultation, a quotation will be emailed to you. Quotes are valid for 7 days from the date sent, & a booking fee must be paid in order to secure the price & date in my diary.
I reserve the right to revise any prices after this period.
Booking Fee
To secure your booking with Feathers Cakery, a non-refundable & non-transferable booking fee of £100.00 is required to be made for all wedding orders.
Please note your date is not secured & your order is not confirmed until I have received this payment from you.
If your booking fee is not paid within the 7 days, then I reserve the right to cancel any previous arrangements.
Your date & price will not be held, & a new quotation may be required.
Please ensure you send me an email confirmation of the booking fee transfer to prompt acknowledgement of the payment. This guarantees your cake & date.
If an order is accepted at short-notice & your date is less than 4 weeks away, the full cost of the order will be required to be paid at the time of booking.
Payment
Payments can only be made via BACS.
Unfortunately, it is not possible to pay by Credit/Debit card or in installments. Cheques are not accepted.
Final payment for all wedding cakes is required no later than 28 days before the wedding/delivery date.
It is your responsibility to ensure this payment is made on time, as a reminder invoice may not always be issued. Once this payment has been made, it is non-refundable & non-transferable in the event of a cancellation. If payment is not received by the date specified, I reserve the right to hold the order until payment is made in full.
When payment is late, I accept no responsibility should I be unable to purchase the required stock or equipment to make the cake as laid out in the order confirmation. In these circumstances, the cake will be made as close to the originally agreed design as possible with no liability on Feathers Cakery.
Failure to pay the outstanding balance in full, within 7 days of having been issued an overdue invoice reminder, will result in a cancellation of the order & the loss of any fees paid to date.
Consultation
Consultations if required/necessary are by appointment only & conducted via video call.
As part of the ordering process, you will have the opportunity to purchase a tasting box containing the six most popular flavours from my menu. Tasting boxes are normally only available outside of the busy wedding season, & are posted via a next day delivery service twice a year, typically March/November.
If you wish to purchase a box, I will add your order to the next available date.
Details
After any consultation, a summary email of our conversation & the requirements discussed will be sent to you.
Please ensure you check all details are correct, especially the spelling of any names, the venue delivery address & your ceremony/reception times, contact details, cake tier sizes, flavour choices (if made), allergen information etc. Once you have confirmed the information included is correct, the cake will be made according to the details contained. It is imperative that you check this carefully, as any errors not picked up prior to the cake being made will not be considered to be my error.
Third Party Decorations
Please give me at least one months’ notice if a bespoke item is required for your order.
If items from additional suppliers are required for your cake, such as special-order cake stands, toppers, decorations etc, we cannot be held responsible for any delays on these items.
If you choose to order items yourself, please check with me first to ensure it will be suitable for use with your cake. I advise ordering anything as soon as possible, so please check any lead times are in line with your event.
If you order the items yourself, I cannot be held responsible for any errors in size, shape or design as the ordering has not been done by myself.
I reserve the right not to use anything supplied by a third party if I deem it unsuitable.
Flowers
Fresh flowers are not calculated within in your cake price. You are therefore required to make all the necessary arrangements with your florist in regards to ordering & making payment for these.
I advise ordering a fair few additional flowers to ensure I have a good selection to work with, however, I can only work with what your florist supplies to me, so please ensure they order flowers especially for the cake. This keeps things cohesive & ensure that the same high standard is maintained throughout all the florals for your event.
I am happy to work with your florist but cannot be held responsible for any problems with your fresh flowers.
Please note that some flowers & foliage are toxic & are therefore not suitable for use on a cake.
If you are having fresh flowers used in your design, then this will be discussed with you in due course.
You will be responsible for ensuring that no toxic flowers are ordered & supplied to me for use on the cake, & so this is to be discussed by you, with your florist, along with ensuring that all flowers for the cake are prepared & conditioned by them correctly without the use of pesticides etc to ensure there will be no contamination to the cake.
Any toxic flowers supplied or flowers prepared incorrectly will not be used on your cake.
If the florist does not meet me, or leave the cake flowers at the venue at the pre-agreed time, I cannot guarantee being able to wait for them to arrive. If I can wait, then my additional time for on-site set up may be charged accordingly.
All flowers will need to be carefully prepared & made food-contact safe before being placed on the cake, & I will personally arrange them on your cake, whether they are provided by me or your florist.
To ensure the flowers freshness throughout the day, cakes should ideally be set up as late as feasibly possible.
If specific photographs of/with the cake are required, you may wish to consider scheduling your cake cutting ceremony earlier in the day for example in order to ensure the flowers freshness for the photographs.

Alterations to your order
I will aim to accommodate any changes requested to your cake design for up to 4 weeks before your event.
I understand that last minute changes may occur so will always do my very best to accommodate these changes, but this is not always possible due to time & some design constraints.
Any accepted changes may incur additional charges in order to cover the cost of changes & additional time required, resulting in the final balance being amended. This will be discussed with you at the time of making the changes. I reserve the right to increase a quote price if a variation of the work is requested.
Delivery & Setup
I will personally deliver and set-up your wedding cake, for an additional charge, to your venue.
This fee will be included on your initial quotation, however if the delivery address changes after the order has been confirmed, then additional charges may be added to cover any extra time & mileage incurred.
It is your responsibility to ensure the correct information of the event is provided, so event time, delivery address etc. This will be detailed on quotations/invoices & should be checked carefully.
Delivery charges include the setup & stacking of the cake at the venue, except where fresh flowers are being used. Additional charges apply for adding fresh flowers & the cost for this service is £25.00 which covers my time & materials used.
I cannot be held responsible for the location of the cake at the venue, so please liaise with your venue coordinator early on to ensure the flooring area in the proposed location is stable, level, & the table is strong enough to hold the cake. To avoid any unnecessary delays, I require the cake table, linen, cake stand (if applicable) & knife etc to already be set up & in place prior to my arrival.
I strongly advise that the cake is not placed next to or near any heat sources, in a sunny window with direct light or in a glass conservatory etc & is kept away from high traffic areas to avoid being accidentally damaged by passing guests. I reserve the right to change the location of the cake at the venue if I feel it is unsuitable & there is a risk of damage to the cake, additionally if I feel the cake stand that you or the venue have provided is not suitable to support the weight of the cake, I reserve the right not to use it.
Once the cake has been delivered to your venue, I will require someone responsible to check that they are happy with the condition of the cake. I will take my own photographs of the cake in situ as proof of our delivery & setup. I cannot be held responsible for any damage to the cake once I have left the premises. If the cake is moved or relocated after my setup, I will also not take any responsibility for any loss or damage arising.
I will always endeavour to deliver your cake in perfect condition prior to the start of your event. However, I cannot be held liable for circumstances beyond my control causing delays or issues completing delivery such as traffic conditions, severe weather, public unrest etc. Should this be a possibility I may recommend delivering the cake earlier or later than originally planned – I would advise you to have adequate wedding insurance in place to cover for any such eventualities.
If the delivery time needs to be changed by you then please let me know as soon as possible so I can try & accommodate. Due to other orders, a change in delivery time may not always be possible.
Upon delivery (or collection if this has been pre-agreed) my cakes shall conform to the description as set out in the order confirmation, be of satisfactory quality & comply with all food safety, statutory & regulatory requirements in the UK. I will not be held responsible for customer disappointment of the design or interpretation of the cake as long as it is made in line with the customers pre-agreed requirements & will face no consequent liability.
If a collection is booked & a late request for venue delivery & setup is then required, I will try to accommodate wherever possible, however this cannot be guaranteed as prior commitments will always take priority.
If delivery is possible, then the delivery & setup fee will be calculated accordingly & added to the final balance.
Collection
I would always prefer to personally deliver & safely setup your cake at the venue. However, if you have ordered a small Single-Tiered cake & you would prefer to collect the cake yourself, then you can do so at a mutually convenient pre-arranged time. Please ensure you (or anyone collecting on your behalf) arrive on time as agreed, as I may not be available if you are late. Tiered cakes are not available for collection.
During transportation is when cakes (especially tiered cakes) are most at risk, so I will safely box up your cake in advance of your collection & provide you with the appropriate care & handling instructions.
I will require a signature to confirm that you have collected the order in perfect condition, as specified, & that I have provided you with the care & handling instructions.
Once the cake has left my care, I cannot be held responsible for any loss or damage that may occur.
I advise the cake be transported on a level surface, ideally the passenger footwell or the empty boot of the car, & that the car is suitably cooled with the air conditioning TURNED ON & any heating TURNED OFF.
Depending on the type of cake you have ordered, it will either need to be kept refrigerated (in its box) or stored at a cool room temperature & out of direct sunlight until taken to the venue.
Checking your Wedding Insurance policy covers any cake damage is highly recommended.
Hot Weather
In the case of extremely hot weather, we may have to discuss alternative options with regards to the design &/or display of your cake, if I have genuine concerns that the original design has a risk of being compromised.
Venues without air conditioning or marquees, orangeries etc have a very high inside temperature & pose a threat to the stability of your cake & can risk the cake collapsing or melting.
It is the responsibility of you, the customer, to ensure that your venue has a suitable location for the cake in these circumstances, & that the cake will be stored/setup in an area that is climate controlled to ensure it remains intact & retains its original condition. Extreme high temperatures & humidity due to weather conditions, & the lack of a cool environment at the appointed location may adversely affect the appearance & condition of the cake. If there is no climate control within the venue & your cake is not suitable for refrigeration (cakes covered in sugarpaste) then a later delivery & setup time should be considered & will be discussed with you/your venue coordinator.
Feathers Cakery will take every step possible to ensure a quality product upon delivery, & cannot be held responsible for unfavourable conditions at the cake’s destination.
Non-Edible Items
Cakes may contain a number of inedible items, internally & externally, such as a wooden central dowel, support dowels, cake cards, ribbon, flower picks & cake hooks/wires etc.
A list of all items will be provided upon collection/delivery.
It is the customers/venues responsibility to ensure these items are removed when cutting the cake.
I cannot be held responsible for any non-edible items that are not removed prior to the cake being served as I will not be cutting the cake personally.
Shelf Life & Storage
All my cakes are baked to ensure optimum freshness for your event. Unlike supermarket cakes, which contain additives & preservatives for an extended shelf life, my cakes are made entirely of natural ingredients.
The cake is best eaten within 3 days of delivery; however, it can last for up to a week when cared for correctly.
I advise cutting your left-over cake into portions, double-wrap each piece in cling film & place them in an airtight container.
If you wish to freeze your cake, food hygiene recommendations are for a maximum of 3 months.
Cake slices will defrost within 1-2hrs at room temperature.
I always aim to leave venues as tidy as possible, so remove all my cake boxes & packaging.
Should you require your box to be kept for transporting the cake home (if not having it cut/served at the event) then please let me know in advance.
Allergens & Dietary Requirements
During the consultation process, it is your responsibility as the customer, to make me aware of any guests attending that have food allergies/intolerance's or special dietary requirements that need to be noted.
All my cakes contain; Gluten, Eggs, Butter & are made in an environment that routinely handles; Dairy, Soya, Nuts, Gluten, & Alcohol. At this time, I do not make Gluten Free (GF), Dairy Free (DF) or Vegan (V) cakes.
I cannot guarantee that any of my products do not contain any substance that may cause some form of allergic reaction. You are responsible for advising your guests of this & I will not accept any liability for any loss, damage or injury from exposure to anything which might cause an allergic reaction. This may include, but without limitation, Nuts & Nut Products, Alcohol, Dairy, Eggs, Wheat, Gluten, Soya, Sulphates or Colourings.
The following ingredients are used routinely for my products:
Eggs, Butters, Flours, Milk/Cream, Raising Agents, Sugars, Extracts and Flavourings, Whitening agents, Chocolate.

I recommend anyone with a severe Nut, Gluten or Dairy allergy/intolerance does not eat the cake.
Full allergen information will be provided to your venue coordinator upon delivery of the cake.
Cake Design Commissions similar to another Design
During your consultation I am happy for you to provide me with photo inspiration for your cake design.
If these are not my original designs, I would prefer not to directly copy them as I would need to seek permission from the original creator, & this is not always possible or guaranteed. Instead, I would design a cake unique to you using the photos as my basis. Where fabric/colour swatches are provided, I will do my best to match up to these as closely as I deem possible. However, exact colour matches are also not guaranteed.
Cake Stand Hire
If you wish to use one of my cake stands, then a hire fee of £20.00 plus a refundable security deposit of £100.00 (covering the full cost of any replacement) will be added to your invoice & payable along with the final balance.
The stand must be returned to me in the same good, clean condition it was left in, & within 3 days of the wedding.
If you require the stand to be collected, additional charges for my return mileage & travel time may apply.
Upon return of the cake stand to me, the security deposit of £100.00 will be refunded back to you via Bank Transfer within 5 working days. Should the stand however be lost, or returned broken or damaged, then the security deposit will be retained by me in full in order to obtain a replacement item.
All hire items are your responsibility until they are returned back to Feathers Cakery.
Cancellations / Refunds
All notices of cancellation must be made in writing. If for any reason you have to cancel your order with me, the initial payment of £100.00 made at the booking stage is non-refundable & non-transferable.
Refunds are at the discretion of Feathers Cakery. No refund will be given due to a change of mind.

For wedding cake orders cancelled more than 28 days in advance of your date, only the booking fee is forfeited.
For orders cancelled where less than the minimum requirement of 28 days’ notice has been given, the full balance paid (including the booking fee) is forfeited and non-refundable.

In the event that I am unable to supply your order on the agreed date due to unforeseen circumstances such as illness, accident, injury, or bereavement etc., I reserve the right to seek substitute companies to fulfil the order.
If a suitable substitute cake designer cannot be arranged, I reserve the right to cancel the order & issue you with a full refund.
Postponements
If you wish to postpone your wedding order with me for any reason, you must request this in writing.
Please let me know as soon as possible if you need to change your wedding date, as date changes are not guaranteed & are subject to my availability. Provided the new date is available to book, there is no transfer fee payable & the full order will be moved to the new date; however, this is only available once, & any subsequent postponements or date changes are subject to a £50.00 administration fee.
In the event that Feathers Cakery is unavailable for your new date, your booking fee is strictly non-refundable.
This covers the work already completed for your booking, which may include but is not limited to, consultations, administration tasks such as phone calls, emails, invoicing, liaising with other suppliers etc.

Wedding postponements are available up until 28 days before the scheduled Wedding date, after this time, dates are non-transferable & final balances for the original dates are payable.
Please revert to the Cancellation Policy.

I strongly advise that you take out a Wedding Insurance policy which covers you in the unfortunate event of any Cancellation/ Postponement that is out of your control.
Complaints
Complaints are very rare, & due to the amount of work I put into each & every individual order, I take them very seriously. Any issues must be brought to my attention within 48 hours of delivery (or collection if applicable) to give me a fair opportunity to assess the nature of the complaint.
Complaints regarding the decoration of the cake can usually be easily rectified, so errors of this nature must be pointed out to me upon delivery (or collection if applicable) to give me the opportunity to correct them.
Where the complaint is in regards to the quality of the cake, then the cake, or remainder of the cake/tier must be returned to me as soon as possible after cutting & within 48 hours of delivery (or collection if applicable) to ensure that I am able to fairly assess the nature of the complaint.
Feathers Cakery does not hold any responsibility for adverse weather conditions affecting the access to any venue but I will make every attempt to get to the venue but only when it is deemed safe to do so…
Feathers Cakery cannot be held responsible for any ‘Acts of God’ (such as Fire, flood etc), Government Advice, Pandemics, Labour disputes, Failure of utility supply & any other unforeseeable circumstances that prevent the promise of my services.
Feathers Cakery reserve the rights to review & update these Terms and Conditions periodically.
